What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a treatment that eliminates body hair and damages hair follicles so it doesn’t grow back. It is starkly different from shaving and waxing, which both result in hair regrowth in a matter of days or weeks. How many laser hair removal treatments do I need?

Dr. Wills calculates the number of treatments you’ll need based on several different factors, like hair density, thickness, and the size and number of treatment areas you want to target. The average number of treatments it takes to capture every follicle in its growth phase is around five to eight. 

Dr. Wills typically recommends waiting 6-12 weeks between treatments, depending on the body part or parts you decide to treat. She encourages you to shave, but not wax, around 24-48 hours before the procedure. 

Are the results of laser hair removal permanent?

The results of laser hair removal vary from person to person. While almost everyone experiences a permanent reduction in their body hair, you might not get completely hair-free skin permanently. Sometimes, hair growth shows up again in treated areas but is lighter, finer, and sparser than before treatment.
